INVESTMENT TRUST
The Florida Local Government Investment Trust (FLGIT) is a local government investment pool developed through the joint efforts of the Florida Association of Court Clerks (FACC) and the Florida Association of Counties (FAC). Organized on December 12, 1991, the Trust is designed to compliment existing investment programs by providing an investment vehicle for funds that can be invested on a short to intermediate term in securities with maturities and returns generally greater than those of money market instruments. The Trust is an open ended, professionally managed fund available only to public entities in Florida.
INVESTMENT GUIDELINES
MAXIMIZE TOTAL RETURN
With larger amounts of money to invest, the Trust can purchase securities in larger denominations, thereby reducing transaction costs and improving yield. Larger investment pools will also permit the selection of a variety of securities maturing at various times, which provides diversity and can enhance total return.
SAFETY OF PRINCIPAL
To minimize credit risk, Trust investments are confined to those of the highest credit quality: Treasuries, agency securities and instrumentalities and other securities collateralized with Treasury/agency securities.
LIQUIDITY
Trust investments are limited to securities having a a maximum effective maturity of five years from the date of purchase. Because of their relatively short maturities, high quality and minimal price fluctuations, ready markets exist for liquidating all securities in which the Trust invests.
NO BORROWING
The Trust does not borrow money or incur indebtedness, except that it may incur and pay operating expenses.
NO LENDING
The Trust does not lend its money, except to the extent that the Trust makes authorized investments.
REPURCHASE AGREEMENT
Repurchase agreements are fully collateralized by obligations of the United States or its agencies or instrumentalities at 102% of market value.
ADVISOR EXPERIENCE
The Trust is required to select an experienced investment advisor specializing in the low volatility, fixed income market.
